Hello, my name is, Elizabeth Searle. I have just completed the foundation year and will be going on to a BA (HONS) Fine Art at the, University West of England. I specialize with working with, Music, Photography and sensory based work and painting with sound.
About the project:
It was a huge privilege to be a part of the, BRAC project this year. I enjoyed exploring the brief of, Belonging as the subject had great depth, meaning and emotion. It was an incredibly exciting collaborative project, and it was great to see how all of the ideas evolved over the course of the few months that we were all working together. For my sense of belonging, I went back to thoughts of where I grew up and the colour of the Ocean, which had a massive impact on my work for this project. For this project I combined two projects together, BRAC and Communication. For the final piece, I produced a painting that was 2mx2m and it is a fully abstracted, Times New Roman capital A. I produced a series of works over two semesters, using my non dominant hand and gradually abstracting the capital A, to the point where I was able to fully abstract it, by using the process of an experimental piece rather than the form, adding a shock of red.
The final piece was made with sound, and I used colours that were not just relevant to my sense of belonging but also colours that were important to the rest of the artists in the collaboration. The initial inspiration for the piece was the musical core from a film that was shot where I grew up, (The French Lieutenants Woman) and it gradually progressed from there.
