Name: Francisco Medina
Program of Study: Fashion Communication

I knew from a young age that the world was more than just my daily routine, so at 18 years of age I decided to leave Spain behind and start a new chapter in the UK.
Leaving my comfort zone, I had to adapt quickly to a new language and a new culture, but more significantly, I learnt the value of hard work and ambition and started to understand my goals for the future.
My course is Fashion Communication I am interested in photography, styling and creative direction. Like fashion, I am always on the move and reinventing myself.

About the project:

Belonging for me is the feeling of your own country and how being in another country makes you realise that feeling. I had the chance to work on the BRAC project with the refugee/asylum seeker artists, which I found very fulfilling hearing people's stories and see their work, we discussed the word "Belonging" which for me it means your roots, memories, history and how being in an unfamiliar place makes you realise that you're part of a community which you might not realise when you're in your comfort zone.

Members of BRAC group and UWE were united to make one collective work that expresses us, which is the dress of an African girl. It was divided into four parts. Each of us took a piece, drew it and designed it according to her/his taste, and gathered all these pieces together again.
