I am from Palestine. I'm helping the community wherever needed, interpreting, art, cooking, teaching and listening. I currently volunteer at two centres to help refugees particularly and the community in general. I enjoy art, craft and calligraphy in Arabic and English, and I've been doing art for years. Art is an easy way to express feelings, and a way of communication and to tell a story, either sad or happy... I'm member of BRAC where the artists are enjoying working together. We've done a number of successful exhibitions in the last few years, in community spaces and online, mostly in collaboration with UWE. We’re artists from different countries but art is a universal language, which everyone can enjoy and understand.
About the project:
We had to begin the ‘Belonging’ Project working from home and online due to Covid-19 limitations but just recently we've returned to the UWE studios. It was great to work from the studio and meet others. It’s disappointing we can’t exhibit physically this year but we’re looking forward to things changing next year hopefully. The work we’ve developed in the current project could be part of a bigger public exhibition and residency and this thought has encouraged me to think about producing larger-scale work.
I have produced a lot of art work during this project. The work is all about Belonging, Windrush and Migrations. It includes a 3D installation Windrush Boat, full of migrants, who came for a better life, but realities and society have been extremely harsh on them, which is causing deep suffering and traumas.... I have included some pictures about Palestine 🇵🇸and current suffering from the occupation there. The occupation began more than 73 years ago, and is still going on...
Please enjoy the exhibition, feel free to ask questions, also all feedback and comments are welcome. Thanks.
